As noted before, The Lucha Brothers’ Penta El Zero Miedo’s contract with AEW had been originally set to expire between this August and September while Rey Fenix’s contract had been originally set to expire this September. Penta’s contract is now believed to be expiring within the next two months while AEW recently added almost a full year’s worth of injury time to Fenix’s contract.
Fightful Select reported their sources stated that AEW officials had creative plans at one point to give the Lucha Bros an AEW World Trios Championship run with PAC as the Death Triangle.
It was reported that despite the Lucha Bros not signing new deals with AEW, they did not communicate to AEW officials of their intentions of wanting to leave the company.
In regards to WWE’s interest in the Lucha Bros, it was reported that those spoken to within WWE stated that WWE officials became aware last week that more time had been added to Fenix’s contract due to the injury clause in his AEW deal. WWE officials reportedly also became aware that Fenix would not be able to join their company any time soon.
It was reported that Fenix had missed over six-months of in-ring action from October of 2023 to June of 2024 and an additional six months of time in 2021 and 2022 combined.
In regards to the Lucha Bros’ status in AEW, it was reported that it is currently not known if AEW officials will continue to use the Lucha Bros during their extended period of time or if they will just be kept off of AEW television. It was reported that Penta and Fenix are still under contract and are still being paid by AEW.
AEW officials reportedly currently expect that Penta and Fenix will put over talents on their way out should they leave for WWE.
