As noted before, Jeff Cobb’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling expired this past January but has worked for the company since then without a contract. Cobb had teased this past February about him potentially leaving for a new company while WWE has shown interest in signing Cobb to a potential contract.
NJPW announced that Cobb will be leaving the company and his final match will be taking place at their Road to Wrestling Dontaku 2025 event on April 19th in Tokyo, Japan. Cobb was announced to be facing off against Hiroshi Tanahashi at for his final match in the company.
It was also announced that they have officially vacated the IWGP Tag Team Championship that was held by United Empire’s Cobb and Callum Newman as a result of Cobb’s upcoming departure.
Jeff Cobb leaves NJPW
New Japan Pro-Wrestling has come to terms with the departure of Jeff Cobb at his request.
With Cobb one half of the IWGP Tag team Champions, those titles have now been vacated.
Cobb’s final match in NJPW will take place in Korakuen Hall on April 19 against Hiroshi Tanahashi.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling profoundly apologises for the sudden nature of this news and joins fans in wishing Cobb the best in all his future endeavours.
Prior to his departure, Cobb had been with NJPW since November of 2017.
