As noted before, Gabe Kidd has been out of action for NJPW since earlier this month due to a knee injury. Kidd recently pulled out of this year’s G1 Climax tournament due to him not being able to be medically cleared to compete for the remainder of it.
Fightful Select reported that their sources within NJPW stated that initial fears was that Kidd had suffered a torn MCL. It was reported that the final diagnosis was a hyperextension of the knee. NJPW officials reportedly still felt that it was in Kidd’s best interest to be removed from the remainder of the tournament to allow a full recovery despite the less severe diagnosis.
In regards to if Kidd’s injury had affected NJPW’s original plans for this year’s tournament, it was reported that Kidd’s withdraw did not cause a major disruption to NJPW officials original plans. Those spoken to reportedly stated that Kidd was not planned to advance to the semifinals. This reportedly helped ease the process of adjusting the tournament standings following Kidd’s forfeitures for the B Block.
