Jim Ross Comments on Bryan Danielson Joining AEW Commentary Being “He’ll Do A Great Job Because He’s A Preparation Freak”

A recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast featured co-host Jim Ross giving his thoughts about Bryan Danielson recently joining AEW’s commentary team on a full-time basis. This episode was taped prior to this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show that featured Danielson’s official Dynamite commentary debut.

“I’m looking forward to it. He’s a studious student of the game, has a lot of knowledge. He’s more than happy to share, which I think is great. I like the addition of him. It gets some knowledge out of a talent that has been kind of sequestered into, I don’t want to say oblivion. Bryan is a really smart guy and I heard some of his work, I think he does a good job. Change is good for us.”

Ross also gave his thoughts about his belief that Danielson will do a great job due to him being a “preparation freak.”

“Bryan is going to do a great job because he’s a preparation freak. He’s got great product knowledge. So when you add preparation and product knowledge together, you got a good chance of coming up with a fresh new sound. He’ll do great.”

Bryan Danielson Comments on “WWE Puts On A Great Spectacle & AEW Gives You More Actual Wrestling”

Downunder The Ring featured Bryan Danielson as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Danielson’s thoughts about the differences between WWE and AEW when it comes to their presentation and philosophy for wrestling shows.

“I would say WWE tends to be informed more by like drama and like outside of the ring action,” he said. “In AEW, you get more actual in-ring wrestling. The wrestling that you see is more action-packed, it’s more hard-hitting, it’s more high-flying. I would say it’s a more exciting style of wrestling, although I’m not going to take anything away from the guys in WWE. Some of the guys do that sort of thing. But that’s not, that’s not what they’re going for, right?

Also, wrestling is character-based. One of the things I like about AEW, and that I loved working there, is that the characters you see on TV are closer to people in real life. It’s not quite as cartoony. [AEW wrestlers] have a little bit more nuance when they do things, and you have to say, there’s always going to be exceptions in both companies whenever you say these types of things, and people will say, ‘Oh, Brian’s bashing WWE.’ I’m not saying that at all. There are different ways of doing things, right? But I think it’s more genuine, and I think the people within AEW, because of how Tony runs it, are closer to the characters that they want to be, the characters that they desire to be. So, yeah, that’s what I would say about that.”
