As noted before, Miranda Alize and Nixon Newell (former Tegan Nox in WWE) made a surprise appearance at the October 25th AEW Collision show that was taped on October 22nd in San Antonio, Texas. Alize and Newell appeared in a backstage segment with TayJay to setup a match between the two that was originally set for the following week’s Collision show on November 1st, which was taped on October 29th in Edinburg, Texas. This was later changed to Alize and Newell competing in a tag team match against Megan Bayne & Marina Shafir that ended in a quick squash victory for Bayne & Shafir.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that Alize and Newell were involved in a backstage incident prior to the start of Saturday’s Collision show in Houston, Texas. This incident reportedly revolved around Alize and Newell refusing to lose in their second appearance for the promotion.
Johnson reported that AEW officials had originally scheduled for Alize and Newell to compete in a tag team match against TayJay but this was dropped after Alize and Newell refused to lose due to they had already lost in their official debut match the week prior. Johnson reported that Alize and Newell left the taping about an hour before its start time and were replaced by Hyan and Maya World. AEW officials reportedly were appreciative or Hyan and World stepping up and each gained praise and points internally.
Prior to the start of the show, Alize posted a tweet stating “We have SOOOOOOOO much to say ……………” and her and Newell were retweeting fan comments about the team needing credible wins.
The Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported that his sources confirmed Mike Johnson’s report and provided additional details.
Alvarez reported that those spoken to stated that Alize and Newell were also involved in a backstage incident last week as well and people within AEW were surprised that the duo was brought back for Saturday’s show.
Fightful Select reported that their sources provided additional details and some clarification about the backstage walkout incident.
It was reported that those spoken to close to the situation stated that Alize and Newell were fine with taking the loss to Tay Melo and Anna Jay but they were upset with being given just three minutes for the match. The duo reportedly had asked for more time but AEW officials responded back telling them that the timing had already been locked in for the show and couldn’t be changed.
Those spoken to reportedly confirmed that Alize and Newell left the building about an hour before the show started. Both Hyan and Maya World reportedly were praised internally for handling the change professionally and delivering on short notice.
It was reported that AEW officials were caught off guard by how things had unfolded due to Newell and Alize had only just starting appearing for the company. Neither Newell nor Alize reportedly are under a contract with AEW and were working on a per-appearance basis.
Alize reportedly was stated to be the more vocal of the two during the dispute and later doubled down online. Newell has not issued her own statement but also retweeted the same posts from Alize.
In regards to the reaction within AEW’s locker room, it was reported that several talents who know and like both women expressed their disappointment over how the situation was handled.
