Backstage Update on WWE’s Plans for John Cena & Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series 2025

As noted before, this past Monday’s WWE RAW show in Boston, Massachusetts featured John Cena defeating Dominik Mysterio to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion. Cena also became the newest member of WWE’s Grand Slam Champions club as a result of his Intercontinental title victory.

Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that WWE officials currently do not have plans for Cena to be part of the lineup for the Men’s Survivor Series WarGames match at this year’s Survivor Series WarGames event on November 29th in San Diego, California. Meltzer stated that he had speculated that Cena could have been part of the match to create a dream team alongside CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Jey Uso but those spoken to stated that the idea of Cena’s potential involvement was “not even close” to being true.

In regards to a potential match between Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio that was teased during the November 3rd WWE RAW show, Meltzer reported that WWE officials currently do not have this match scheduled to be taking place at their Survivor Series WarGames event later this month.

In regards to a potential rematch between Cena and Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental title, Meltzer reported that it is currently not known if this match will be taking place or not prior to Cena’s retirement from his in-ring career. Meltzer had originally reported that Cena and Mysterio’s match for the title was scheduled to take place at Survivor Series WarGames 2025 before being moved up to this past Monday’s WWE RAW show instead.
