Kazuchika Okada Comments on His Goal of Winning The AEW World Title
Tokyo Sports held a recent interview with AEW International Champion Kazuchika Okada. One of the topics discussed included Okada’s thoughts about his current goal of wanting to win the AEW World Championship for his third year in AEW.
“I still have the International belt (after losing the Continental title in December last year), but I definitely need to aim for the AEW main event (AEW World) Heavyweight belt. I’ve been fighting in different title fights for a long time, so I want to go there and win the belt, and I hope to come back to Japan with that in mind.”
Okada also gave his thoughts about his recent return to NJPW for his match against Hiroshi Tanahashi for Tanahashi’s retirement at Wrestle Kingdom 20.
“While many people have left and Mr. Tanahashi has retired, I still think the brilliance in the ring remains unchanged. It’s precisely because the current young wrestlers are working hard, and because they’ve seen the backs of those who left and what Mr. Tanahashi did, that we’ve reached this point now.”
Okada also gave his thoughts about NJPW future following Tanahashi’s in-ring retirement and how him seeing AEW made him appreciate NJPW even more than before.
“I think that’s none of their business. We’ve got the talent to match. Seeing AEW actually made me appreciate New Japan Pro-Wrestling even more. It’s not just the US that’s great; Japanese pro-wrestling has its own strengths. I think a lot of the younger guys just haven’t realized that yet. If they could just have more confidence in the wrestling they’re doing, I believe the fans would follow, and we could build up to something truly amazing again.”
Marina Shafir Comments on Her Praise of Megan Bayne
A recent episode of the AEW Up Close with Renee Paquette show featured Marina Shafir as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Shafir’s thoughts about her current pairing with Megan Bayne as a tag team and her praise of Bayne for her always working to get better as a wrestler.
“Yeah, I met her when she first came to AEW, really quiet, but she was this beautiful big bitch and so athletic, and she just wants to get better. She’s a hard worker. She’s just always trying to get better. She works her fucking ass off, and I very much respect and appreciate that. So when the opportunity came, I was like, sign me up to the side quest. Let me be her little playmate with this. Like I very much enjoy working with her. It was a gift, you know, and she’s her own entity in her own little world. I love it.”
