As noted before, this past Sunday’s WWE WrestleMania 42 Night 2 event featured Oba Femi defeating Brock Lesnar in his official WrestleMania debut match. This match was also notable for Lesnar teasing his retirement from his in-ring wrestling career after he took off his gloves and boots and left it the ring.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that some of his sources spoken to within WWE stated that they believe that Lesnar is not retiring yet but it is likley to happen at some point this year.
Meltzer reported that nobody he spoke to knows for sure if Lesnar is actually retired or not and speculated it might be one of those things where it is being kept quiet like the Seth Rollins injury angle situation.
Meltzer also reported that WWE officials’ plans at one point for Lesnar was for him to keep feuding with Femi and not have it just be a one-and-done match. WWE officials reportedly dropped that plan and went with the idea to do the Goldberg approach and go with Femi all the way for their match at WrestleMania 42.
Bryan Alvarez speculated that Lesnar’s in-ring retirement moment might have been genuine and not just a storyline due to him feeling how it was odd that Lesnar threw up an “X” to the crowd after his match. Alvarez also brought up how emotional Paul Heyman was during his promo on Monday’s RAW show and the tribute video to Lesnar’s wrestling career felt more like it was just thrown together as if Lesnar’s actions were unexpected and caught everyone off guard in WWE.
