Brian Cage on When He Got The Call for His AEW Return from Injury & He Considered Changing His Character and In-Ring Style While Away From Injury

As noted before, Brian Cage made his surprise return from injury to AEW at the May 13th episode of AEW Dynamite. Cage was revealed to be the mystery opponent for Kevin Knight’s Open Challenge for his TNT Championship. This was Cage’s first appearance and match since March of 2025 due to a knee injury.

False Finish held a recent interview with Brian Cage. One of the topics discussed included Cage’s thoughts about when he got the call to make his in-ring return from injury to AEW.

“When I got the call to come back to AEW, it was late Tuesday night. I already had a full schedule and wasn’t even home. I got back, trained legs because I knew I’d be traveling all day Wednesday for Dynamite, prepared everything for the weekend and my commitments, and finished around three in the morning. I got up at 5:40 a.m. to get to the airport and didn’t arrive at the arena for the match with Kevin Knight until around seven that night. I went straight to medical, had to get cleared by the state athletic commission, then receive treatment. I didn’t even see the locker room. I changed right after getting off the treatment table and went straight to Gorilla Position.”

Cage also gave his thoughts about how he had considered changing his character and in-ring wrestling style during his time away from a knee injury.

“It made me think about possibly changing or evolving my character and my style in the ring a little bit. I was excited about trying to come back in a different way.”
