Backstage Update on Tessa Blanchard’s Status With MLW & Pulled MLW Booking For CMLL Show on 9/12

As noted before, former TNA and current CMLL talent Tessa Blanchard had recently claimed that she had signed a contract with Major League Wrestling and was scheduled to make her official debut appearance for MLW at this year’s Fightland event and MLW Fusion tapings on September 12 in Charleston, South Carolina. CMLL had recently clarified that Blanchard’s status with MLW was only limited to her scheduled appearance. CMLL also recently announced Blanchard will be competing at their Sabados De Coliseo show on September 12 resulting in her no longer appearing for MLW that night.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that none of the sides involved are currently taking about the situation beyond CMLL issuing an official statement clarifying Blanchard’s status with MLW.

Meltzer reported that his sources stated that Blanchard was excited to work with MLW and the company was pushing her coming hard on television and social media.

Meltzer speculated that the issue on CMLL’s end was due to the wording used by Blanchard and MLW about her signing an official contract with MLW when in reality they had only gave their approval for her to work MLW’s Fightland 2026 show.

In regards to CMLL talents working MLW shows, Melzter reported that while CMLL talents regularly works on MLW shows, none of them are under an actual contract with MLW and instead they work out the dates through CMLL.

Meltzer also speculated that Blanchard and/or MLW officials had pushed the idea of Blanchard winning the MLW World Women’s Featherweight Championship at their show and that would have guaranteed more bookings for future MLW shows. Meltzer stated that CMLL wasn’t happy due to they had not given their approval for future dates and wanted it to be known publicly that they had only agreed to one date for her in MLW.

One person with knowledge of the situation reportedly described it as being CMLL booking Blanchard for one date and MLW promoting it big that she was starting there with goals of winning MLW titles.

Meltzer reported that Blanchard doing a media push talking about how she was after MLW titles also ended up making CMLL officials upset over it since they had only allowed her to work that one date. CMLL reportedly was not happy with how Blanchard handled the situation with the media.
