Ric Flair Update: Underwent Surgery (Update: Situation “Serious”)

TMZ is reporting that Ric Flair is in a medically induced coma and is preparing for surgery, according to what a “rep for WWE” told them.

As mentioned earlier, Ric Flair was hospitalized over the weekend and was dealing with “tough medical issues,” according to his spokesperson.

Word has been that the issues may be heart related. In Ric Flair’s autobiography, “To Be The Man,” Flair said that he suffered from alcoholic cardiomyopathy, which occurs due to alcohol’s toxic effects on heart muscle, causing the heart to be unable to pump blood efficiently.

PWInsider is also reporting that Charlotte Flair flew to Atlanta this morning to be with her father.

Update

Dave Meltzer is reporting that Ric Flair is out of surgery, but “the situation is still extremely serious.”

Flair reportedly had a surgery already scheduled for this week, but there is no word if this is the originally scheduled surgery or a new surgery due to something else that was discovered. According to the Wrestling Observer, “there is believed to be a heart issue involved and another issue.”

Update 2

Ric Flair’s spokesperson posted that the surgery was successful and that it was not heart related, as had been speculated:

Mean Gene Okerlund posted on Facebook that it was colon surgery, though that’s unconfirmed for now.

I’ve heard nothing on the outcome of Ric Flairs colon surgery this afternoon but the outpouring of prayers and love re-enforce that he definitely is “THE MAN”.
