In-Ring: Aleister Black, Tommaso Ciampa

NXT Champion Aleister Black came to the ring for a promo. The crowd at Full Sail chanted his name. Black’s message was about adversity defining a champion. He made his adversity “fade to black” at TakeOver.

Tommaso Ciampa interrupted Black. Ciampa said Black had faced adversity — but now it was time to face the devil. Ciampa added that he sees through Black’s act, and believes the title makes Black instead of the champion making the title.

Now that the Gargano “fairytale” is over, Ciampa says he wants the NXT Championship. Black responded by threatening to knock Ciampa unconscious if William Regal were to make the match.

“Boy,” Ciampa chided, “Be careful what you say.”

Ciampa went on to say he would take the mystique away from Black if they were to face each other. Ciampa said he only needed one opportunity. He sat down cross-legged on the stage. Ciampa vowed that Black would “fade to black” if Ciampa was given an opportunity. Ciampa then maniacally waved at Black before he left the scene.

The announce team revealed news that Black’s challenger at TakeOver: Chicago — Lars Sullivan — suffered a broken jaw during their match. Mauro Ranallo noted Sullivan broke his jaw about halfway through the bout. The announcers put over Sullivan for still finishing the match.

Earlier: Vanessa Borne

In a pre-taped interview outside Full Sail, Vanessa Borne cut a promo on Kairi Sane. Borne sarcastically asked why Sane dresses like a pirate. Borne called it stupid. After defeating Sane, Borne said she could then sell her own T-shirts and other merch. Not sure that Sane is keeping her away from the gimmick tables, but at least Borne has goals.

Kona Reeves defeated Max Humberto

Reeves pinned Humberto in a squash match.

On commentary, Nigel McGuinness said Reeves was getting training advice from “Magnificent” Don Muraco. I wonder if that include studying tapes of Fuji Vice?

Reeves showed a lot of aggression. At one point, he fell backwards with a Nestea Plunge into an elbow drop. Humberto briefly fought back before he ate a big boot. Reeves executed the Hawaiian Drop for the pinfall.

Candice LeRae defeated Lacey Evans

LeRae pinned Evans with a Lionsault.

Evans got a lot of offense, but LeRae looked much more smooth in the ring. The story early on revolved around LeRae countering Evans — until Evans targeted an arm. Evans began working the arm before switching to a cobra clutch.

LeRae escaped the clutches of Evans to begin a comeback. LeRae kept selling her arm as she fired up. She executed an Unprettier and finished off Evans with a Lionsault.

Later on during a post-match interview, LeRae said her sights are now set on the NXT Women’s Championship.

Backstage: Johnny Gargano

In another backstage interview, Johnny Gargano said his favorite wrestler is his wife Candice. Nevertheless, Gargano is still obsessing over Ciampa. Gargano wants one more match between them. He doesn’t care when or where the match takes place. Gargano said he would fight Ciampa anywhere. He would even fight him in a grocery store. Mr. Regal, in storyline, instead ruled that Gargano will face EC3 on the next episode.

Segment: Heavy Machinery

In a skit filmed off location, Heavy Machinery were grilling meat and cutting promos on The Mighty. They threatened The Mighty with physical harm.

The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly) defeated Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) & Ricochet

The next match on the show was supposed to be Moustache Mountain in their first tag match on TV since winning the NXT Tag Team Championship. Their opponents — Dave Dixon & Carl Axelrod — were attacked by the Undisputed Era on their way to the ring. The faction administered a beatdown before turning their attention to the new tag champs. Kyle O’Reilly called the recent title change a fluke. Roderick Strong called them phonies and dorks. Adam Cole said his group would strip the new champs of their pride. “This is our era,” Cole said. “And you two are just living in it.” The Undisputed Era closed in on Moustache Mountain with a three-on-two advantage. Suddenly, the “One and Only” theme song blared as Ricochet ran in to even the odds. That set up a trios match.

Cole pinned Ricochet in a really great match.

The babyface trio shined in the opening moments with a flurry of flashy moves. Lots of teamwork and double-team moves were on display. Eventually, the heel team capitalized on a misstep.

The Undisputed Era cut the ring in half as they worked over Bate. Cole dashed a hope spot, O’Reilly tortured Bate, and Strong was continuing the beating when Bate fired up on him.

Ricochet cleaned house after a hot tag. He launched into a flying uppercut for a near fall.

O’Reilly moments later countered by catching Ricochet in a guillotine.

Seven tagged in and looked to continue the babyface rally. When he signaled to Bate for tandem offense, O’Reilly grabbed Seven by the leg. Cole then dispatched Bate. Ricochet was still down selling the choke hold.

Outnumbered by the Undisputed Era, Seven became the target in a proverbial shooting gallery. Bate and Ricochet jumped in to make the save on a near fall. The heels soon jumped in to break up the count with Ricochet cradling Cole after a Michinoku Driver.

Everybody got in on the action for a series of spots that led into everyone down selling. The crowd chanted “NXT” as everyone made it to their feet.

The match briefly turned into a Gordon Solie Pier-Sixer. Ricochet ran wild in the closing moments. O’Reilly saved Cole after Ricochet delivered a 630 bomb. Ricochet then wiped out O’Reilly with a dive through the ropes.

Strong rushed in for a sneak attack on Ricochet. He suplexed Ricochet onto the ring apron and rolled him back into the ring. Cole then crawled over to cover Ricochet for the pin.
