It’s Unclear if Sami Zayn’s AEW Mention on Raw Was Scripted or Not

Sami Zayn mentioned AEW during his segment last night on Raw, leading to questions about whether or not the line was scripted. During a fan Q&A segment on Raw, Zayn was upset about the quality of questions and said that the fans “could have asked me anything. You could have asked me about AEW.”

There are conflicting reports about whether or not the line was scripted or if it was a Sami Zayn improvisation.

PWInsider says that they asked several sources who said that the AEW line was not in the Raw script and Zayn, who has more creative control than most in his promos, likely improvised.

But Dave Meltzer contradicted that, saying on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told that the line was scripted. But Observer co-host Bryan Alvarez said that he was told by a source that it was NOT scripted. Meltzer said that if it wasn’t scripted, that’s something that would get you suspended and said, “the person who told me would know because they were in the meeting.” Alvarez said that his source was also in the meeting and speculated that WWE could be “messing with the boys,” telling wrestlers that lines were not scripted even though they possibly were.

Pro Wrestling Sheet backed up Meltzer, saying that their sources told them that Zayn was told to mention AEW.

The line was cut from the video WWE uploaded to YouTube.
