No Bail for Sonya Deville’s Accused Stalker

The man accused of breaking in to Sonya Deville’s house on Saturday night was denied bail during a court hearing in Florida on Thursday.

Hillsborough Circuit Judge Catherine Catlin ruled that 24-year-old Phillip A. Thomas was a threat to the community and denied his defense’s motion for bail.

He will remain in jail until his trial – the date of which hasn’t been set yet.

Thomas’s defense argued that his bail be set at $2 million and that he could be tracked using an electronic monitoring device, but the judge said, “I don’t see any way we can protect our community in Hillsborough County if we give him bail. A GPS on him gives me no peace of mind. A GPS monitor does nothing for me,” according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Sonya Deville spoke in person at the court hearing, telling the story of the man who broke into her home to allegedly hold her hostage and had sent her several threatening messages, threatening her and her loved ones.

Thomas was not in the court room in person and instead appeared on a live video stream from a Hillsborough County jail.

He’s charged with armed kidnapping, aggravated stalking, armed burglary and criminal mischief.
