More on WWE NXT Viewership for August 23rd

The August 23rd episode of WWE NXT saw NXT suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a small decline in key demographic ratings and key demographic viewership.

NXT drew 678,000 viewers and a 0.14 key demographic rating on USA Network. NXT’s key demographic ranking for that night was 10th place.

Detailed viewership and key demographic breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for NXT’s declines this week was due to the large decline from their Teenagers and older key demographic viewership groups, which were down 33.3% and 30.8% respectively compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline from their male key demographic viewership, which was down 27.8% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the WNBA 2022 Playoffs Game 3 of New York Liberty vs. Chicago Sky drew 533,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB game of New York Mets vs. New York Yankees drew 680,000 viewers on TBS, the Liga MX game of Queretaro vs. America drew 339,000 viewers on TUDN, 7 Little Johnstons drew 947,000 viewers on TLC, Below Deck Down Under drew 614,000 viewers on Bravo, and Deadliest Catch drew 728,000 viewers on Discovery Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, NXT had 183,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 117,000 male viewers and 66,000 female viewers for a split of 63.9% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, NXT was down 1% in overall viewership and down 10.7% in key demographic viewership.


More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for August 24

The August 24th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and a small gain in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 1,049,000 viewers and a 0.34 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 1st place.

Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s gains this week was due to weaker than usual competition that night, especially from sports. Meltzer reported that the gap between AEW and second place Little League World Series game that night in terms of key demographic ratings was around 55%, which would be the largest ever gap for a top rated AEW show in AEW history. Another reason for AEW’s increase reportedly was due to the large gains from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was up 21.6% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2022 Little League World Series game of Pearland, TX vs. Hollidaysburg, PA drew 1,451,000 viewers on ESPN, the WNBA 2022 Playoffs Game 3 of Dallas Wings vs. Connecticut Sun drew 497,000 viewers on ESPN, the Liga MX game of UNAM vs. Tigres UANL drew 322,000 viewers on TUDN, the MLB game of Chicago White Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles drew 182,000 viewers on FS1, and Real Housewives of Dubai drew 478,000 viewers on Bravo.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 444,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was up 13.3%, Females 18-34 was up 34%, Males 35-49 was up 5.9%, and Females 35-49 was up 23.9%. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was at 63.3% in favor of males which was lower than usual for AEW shows.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, six out of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 1,198,000 viewers for their fifth quarter while their quarter low was at 987,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 10.5% in overall viewership and down 28.4% in key demographic viewership.

AEW Dynamite quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 1,097,000 overall viewers and 466,000 key demo viewers (Chris Jericho, Daniel Garcia, & Bryan Danielson promo segment)
  • 2Q – 1,046,000 overall viewers and 413,000 key demo viewers (Jay Lethal vs. Dax Harwood)
  • 3Q – 1,006,000 overall viewers and 399,000 key demo viewers (Lethal vs. Harwood post-match angle, Thunder Rosa backstage interview, and the Colten Gunn vs. Billy Gunn match)
  • 4Q – 1,036,000 overall viewers and 430,000 key demo viewers (Death Triangle & United Empire backstage segment, Britt Baker vs. KiLynn King and post-match angle, Acclaimed & Swerve In Our Glory backstage segment)
  • 5Q – 1,198,000 overall viewers and 512,000 key demo viewers (Undisputed AEW World Championship Unification match of Jon Moxley vs. CM Punk)
  • 6Q – 1,030,000 overall viewers and 446,000 key demo viewers (Christian Cage backstage interview, Ricky Starks promo segment, and Jon Moxley backstage segment)
  • 7Q – 987,000 overall viewers and 438,000 key demo viewers (first half of the Death Triangle vs. United Empire match)
  • 8Q – 993,000 overall viewers and 444,000 key demo viewers (second half of Death Triangle vs. United Empire match and post-match angle)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for August 19th

The August 19th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and key demographic ratings and a small decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW Rampage drew 461,000 viewers and a 0.12 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that week’s show was 14th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the large declines from their male key demographic viewership group, which was down 35.8% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the large gain from their Teenagers group, which was up 40% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NFL Preseason game of Houston Texans vs. Los Angeles Rams drew 718,000 viewers on NFL Network, the MLB simulcast games of Miami vs. Los Angels Dodgers and Washington vs. San Diego drew 142,000 viewers on MLB Network, On Patrol Live drew 812,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 781,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 163,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 97,000 male viewers and 66,000 female viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 59.5% in favor of males, which is believed to be the lowest ever for an AEW show in AEW history. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage show did not rank in the Top 10 youngest skewing English sports show for the week while that week’s Dynamite was the seventh youngest, behind five English Premier League games and one MLS game.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 59.2% in overall viewership and down 76.6% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that the main reason for the large declines was due to last year’s show featured the official AEW debut of CM Punk.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 501,000 overall viewers and 178,000 key demo viewers (Claudio Castagnoli & Dustin Rhodes promo segment, Ortiz & Ruby Soho backstage interview segment, and the AEW World Tag Team Championship match of Private Party vs. Swerve In Our Glory (c))
  • 2Q – 458,000 overall viewers and 151,000 key demo viewers (The Factory & Powerhouse Hobbs backstage segment, Matt Menard & Angelo Parker backstage segment, The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn backstage segment, the Buddy Matthews vs. Serpentico match, and the Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter, and Rebel backstage segment)
  • 3Q – 455,000 overall viewers and 162,000 key demo viewers (Athena vs. Penelope Ford and post-match angle with Jade Cargill & The Baddies)
  • 4Q – 432,000 overall viewers and 150,000 key demo viewers (Best Friends vs. Trustbusters match)
