Tony Khan Reportedly Currently Not Granting AEW Talent Release Requests
As noted before, WWE recently contacted several AEW contracted talents to gauge their interest in potential returns to the company. Several talent who were contacted reportedly rejected WWE’s feelers while others had asked for their release from AEW to join WWE.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that AEW CEO Tony Khan is currently not willing to grant releases by talent who have recently requested it following WWE’s alleged contract tampering with AEW talent.
Khan reportedly wants talent signed to AEW to honor their contractual commitments to the company as the reason for his recent denial of their release requests.
Among those who are known or believed to have asked for their releases includes Malakai Black, who recently denied that he actually asked for one despite a previous statement by him mentioning that he did.
Battle of the Belts IV Special to Air Live Next Month
AEW reportedly is currently planning to air next month’s Battle of the Belts IV special as a live show, according to the Wrestling Observer.
Unlike with past Battle of the Belts specials, Dave Meltzer reported that his sources stated that AEW officials currently have scheduled their upcoming Battle of the Belts IV special to air as a live show and on a Friday night time slot instead of its usual taped show and Saturday night time slot.
Meltzer reported that this upcoming special will air right after AEW’s upcoming live Rampage show on October 7th with the goal by AEW officials to make that night’s Rampage and Battle of the Belts IV shows feel like a major two-hour event.
TNT’s television schedule for the night of October 7th currently lists AEW’s Battle of the Belt IV special airing at a start time of 11PM EST.
