WWE: Mia Yim Name Change Update, New NIL Signing, Baron Corbin on Braun Strowman Controversy

Mia Yim Ring Name Change Update

As noted before, WWE recently gave Mia Yim a new ring name change to Michin based on a recent update to their official roster page on their website. Michin is the nickname that Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson have been calling Yim on-screen since her return to WWE earlier this month.

WWE recently updated their official roster page reverted Yim’s official ring name back to Mia Yim.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports’ 10 Count podcast, Yim gave her thoughts on WWE’s changes to her ring name as part of her recent return to the company.

“Yes. It’s a nickname within the OC, all the boys have their nicknames. They’re like, ‘You need a nickname too.’ ‘We’ll do a nickname that I’ve had since I was a kid. Something that my mom has been calling me since I was a kid. We’ll go with that.”

WWE Signs Gabi Butler to WWE NIL Contract

WWE reportedly recently signed longtime gymnast and Netflix reality television series Cheer star Gabi Butler to an official NIL contract with the company, according to PEOPLE.

Butler stated in an interview with PEOPLE that she made her decision to pursue a potential career in wrestling after attending WWE’s SummerSlam 2022 event this past July in Nashville, Tennessee.

“I was blown away by what they put on. I was so involved in the cheerleading industry for so long, and I never really looked into anything other than cheerleading. But when I went to SummerSlam, it really just opened my eyes to the athleticism and the dedication the athletes bring into the ring. It was almost like I was watching a cheerleading competition, but wrestling edition.”

Butler also stated that she had spent some time with WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon at the event, who “really inspired” her to make the leap into a potential wrestling career.

Baron Corbin Comments on Braun Strowman’s Recent Online Twitter Controversey & Backstage Heat

A recent episode of the WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves podcast had Baron Corbin as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Corbin’s thoughts about Braun Strowman’s recent online controversy and backstage heat over his disparaging comments towards wrestlers who work a high flying style.

“I think, yeah, do you but whatever it is, stand behind it [Corbin said about Braun Strowman’s tweets that caused a stir]. If you cower and back down after, then you didn’t really mean it, you were doing it for clout, doing it for show, doing it for social media. I don’t do anything for social media and I also don’t go out and label myself whatever it is. If you’re gonna go out and tweet, ‘I’m the greatest big man this business has ever seen,’ if you’re saying it and you’re the one that’s having to put the title, nobody else is saying it about you, then you’re full of crap and so if you’re gonna go out there and you’re gonna bash little guys, look, I have some respect for guys like Rey Mysterio who have done unbelievable things at his size and his stature and he is iconic and there will be a lot of people that will come along in the future that will get compared to him and wanna be him but there will never be another Rey Mysterio. There is a place for those guys like we talked about. It may not be the main event but there is a place for them so if you’re gonna go out on social media and say those things and the minute people start firing back at you, you back down or you cower away or you try to say it was a joke, that’s when I get irritated. Stand behind what you say, be a man and back it up and also, for me, I’m going out there, for ten years now, I’ve irritated people and not cared how they felt. My job is not to make anybody who watches what I do happy. That is not my job. For right now, Braun, that is his job. His job is to go out, get people excited, he’s on that side of the fence, he’s a ‘good guy’ if you will and so to go out and do that, I don’t understand it but you know, I think that you should take pride in being a big man and putting on a show like that but the minute you have to tell people how good you are and make up your own star rating, I’m out.”
