Kenny Omega AEW Contract Update & Interest from WWE

As noted before, Kenny Omega’s contract with AEW is currently set to expire in early 2023 and as early as the end of this month.

Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed that Omega’s contract does contains terms that allows AEW to add extra time for injury-related reasons but it is currently not known if AEW has yet to add this injury time or not. This extra time would cover the period that Omega was away from the company due to multiple injuries from November of 2021 to August of 2022.

It was also reported that Omega currently has good talent representation and AEW adding injury time to his deal might not be a “slam dunk” or might come with concessions from the company. It was also reported that Omega’s current contract allows him to work for New Japan Pro Wrestling as long as it does not conflict with his work schedule for AEW unless an agreement is made.

It was also reported that several people spoken to within WWE currently believe that the company has a chance to sign Omega once his current contract with AEW expires. Omega reportedly has maintained a positive relationship with WWE and particularity with WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. This positive relationship reportedly has been in place since 2018 following talks between the two sides for a potential contract at the time.

In an interesting note, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that while WWE is currently interested in potentially signing Jay White, their current priority is actually towards signing someone else who was stated to be a “much bigger free agent” than White. It is currently not known if this “bigger” free agent is actually Omega or someone else instead.
