Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania featured a backstage segment featuring Adam Copeland and Christian Cage that was taped following their tag team match at this past Saturday’s All Out 2025 event. This segment was notable for Copeland telling Cage that he was going away for family-related reasons caused by FTR and he was not sure if he would be coming back. This quickly led to online speculation of Copeland leaving AEW and returning to WWE for a potential last match with John Cena for Cena’s retirement tour.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that any rumors about Copeland returning to WWE with AEW’s blessing to wrestle John Cena are not true.
Johnson reported that those spoken to stated that the reason why Copeland was written off of AEW television was due to his upcoming filming commitments for the final season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians for Disney+. Copeland is expected to reprise his role of Ares, The God of War, on the series.
