Penta Comments on WWE’s Acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Being a Very Good Thing for Mexican Wrestlers & Wrestling Business
As noted before, WWE announced this past April that they have acquired Lucha Libre AAA. Alberto El Patron and several other AAA talents are currently believed to have been recently signed to official contracts with WWE.
A recent episode of WWE’s RAW Recap podcast featured Penta as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Penta’s thoughts about WWE’s acquisition of AAA being a very good thing for both Mexican wrestlers and the wrestling industry business.
“In my personal opinion, it’s good for the business, it’s good for the fans. I think it’s a very, very good opportunity for the Mexican wrestlers, the younger wrestlers and in general the Mexican wrestlers. Because this door is bigger [than] any other opportunity in the world… I am sure this is the best opportunity for all Mexican wrestlers, brother. I want to see more wrestlers here in WWE, you know? Like, luchadores, obviously. But to be honest, man, and serious, I think it’s good for the business, bro. I don’t know when it starts. I don’t know how is the real formula for this project, but just I feel in my heart this is a good business.”

In a recent interview with the RAW Talk podcast, Dominik Mysterio gave his thoughts about how main roster talent in WWE currently are making around six figures for their contracts depending on what they are doing in the company. Mysterio stated “Main roster, once you’re on TV like Raw or SmackDown, you’re making good money. Definitely six figures, around there. Depends on what you’re doing. For the year. It depends on what you’re doing. When you’re first getting signed, if you’re doing an NXT deal, that’s different. From NXT, you move on to the main roster, that’s a whole different contract. Now you’re main roster and not NXT. The money depends on how you’re getting used, your merchandise sales, action figures, video game stuff. There is so much that goes into it. It’s hard to say a specific amount.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
As noted before, Carmella’s contract with WWE expired this past February and departed from the company. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown on SI, Carmela, real name Leah Van Dale, gave her thoughts about her experience working with former TKO and WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon during her time in WWE. Carmella stated “I loved working with Vince, I really did. All of that, everything, the noise that has happened, that aside, my personal experience with Vince was nothing but positive. He was always so open to anything that I would have to suggest or if I had questions or concerns. I could always go to him, and he would always make time for the talent. He really would. I feel so grateful for the time to learn from him. His mind is so…I don’t even know the word to explain it. His mind for this business is so incredible. I learned so much from him, whether it was cutting a promo. I always go back to talking about my promo after I won Money in the Bank. He was so specific about what he wanted me to do in this promo. ‘Look here, do this, talk about this.’ He was awesome to work with. I pitched to work with Ellsworth and he loved this idea. Once he saw us on TV together he was like, ‘This was so good.’ Because of that, he had time for my ideas because I had crazy ideas and Vince is known for crazy ideas. He goes for it. Sometimes I would go to him and be like, ‘No, that’s not going to work.’ At least I try and I think he respected that about me. I didn’t sit in the corner and take what was given. I always tried to make the most of whatever I was given and I would try to have feedback and collaborate.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, TNA and indies talent Matt Cardona gave his thoughts about him being surprised that he has yet to make a return to WWE. Cardona stated “Honestly? Yeah. But obviously I’m missing something, I don’t know what it is. Listen, people say to me all the time, especially since we just had WrestleMania, WrestleCon. Thousands of people, probably every other fan, if not every fan. ‘When are you coming back?’ Well, it’s not up to me. Or at the WrestleMania Hotel. Thanks, Chelsea for letting me stay in a hotel room for free. Saved me some money. Great hotel. Great Steakhouse, too. But so many people from the office or other wrestling, ‘Hey, man, when are you coming back?’ It’s like, I don’t know. I’ve reached out many times. I shouldn’t say many, a few times, every couple months when something cool happens or I have something to say, hey, look what I’m doing. There’s been no offer. Everything’s very nice, professional, but there’s no offer. And you know what, it is what it is, I’m gonna keep working my ass off.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
As noted before, current TNA World Champion Joe Hendry was revealed as the mystery opponent for Randy Orton’s match at this past April’s WrestleMania 41 Night 2 event in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a recent interview with the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Hendry gave his thoughts about if he had expected to be chosen as Kevin Owens’ replacement for Orton’s match at WrestleMania 41. Hendry stated “No, I honestly didn’t think that at the time. Sometimes, again, I know there was a lot of chatter about when Jey Uso said he needed a tag team partner. The difficulty is sometimes, because you’re so busy, I’ll just see things on Twitter, or I’ll see a clip of the show, and I’ll just tweet the meme out there. Sometimes you go, hahaha, and you’re going, Oh God, this is caught on like wildfire. It’s getting an insane amount of likes to the point where it’s almost like people think it’s a spoiler, and I’m just kind of messing around. That’s one thing I’ve learned that before the first time we spoke, the social media game is very much you can just throw mud at the wall and see what sticks. Whereas now there are actually very real consequences if I tweet even my face at the wrong time. So for example, and again, I actually didn’t know the severity of Kevin Owens’ injury. I just saw the clip of the RKO to Aldis, and I kind of heard something about he might not be doing it. Then there’s that thing there. I thought, well, I’ll tweet at my face now. And actually, I took that down because when I understood the full context, because I was like this is not the appropriate time. So there’s things that where you’ll see a little thing, and then there was the moment with Jey, where I tweeted it because I didn’t really think I would have been in serious consideration. And then you tweet and go, well, actually, I just ruined this for myself.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
