Goldberg Comments on His Retirement Match Being a “Huge Risk” & Gunther Being His Opponent

As noted before, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg made his surprise return to WWE at this past Monday’s WWE RAW show and will be facing off against Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at next month’s Saturday Night’s Main Event Show in Atlanta, Georgia.

A recent episode of The National Football Show with Dan Sileo podcast featured Goldberg as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Goldberg’s thoughts about his upcoming retirement match against Gunther.

“Who I am to him (GUNTHER) is an old man — is a 58-year-old guy who is hobbled and not like he used to be and he believes that even at my peak, he could have taken me which is absolutely laughable. But, I mean… he’s a formidable opponent. He’s the World Heavyweight Champion. I remember meeting him years ago right when he broke in and the guy had a shooting star up his ass at that point and I knew he was gonna be destined for big things and hey, it’s an honor for me to get in the ring with him, it’s an honor to step into a position to be vying for the World Heavyweight Championship at 58 years old. I don’t know of any other ones who’ve retired with a match like that.

Because of what I just told you (is why I’m getting back in the ring). Because I ain’t freaking going out the way I went out. Period, end of story so at 58 years old, if I have to go in there hobbled, if I have to go in there 30 pounds lighter, I don’t give a sh*t. Because I have a point to make and at 58 years old, can I still make that point? I don’t know, but, I’m gonna do my best… 50 percent of me is better than 99 percent of the pricks on the planet, I believe, and so if I still give that effort and have the work ethic, though I’m not who I used to be but here I am. I mean, we don’t lose that. It’s a risk, it’s a huge risk. Am I risking the legacy of Goldberg in the ring? Yeah… Every time you step in there, you risk that. But, it’s risk versus reward and it’s another opportunity to give Gage a platform to see his dad go out and do his thing. I mean, he’s the reason why I came out of retirement in the beginning. 15 years ago or whatever it was for the first time. I’m not doing it for me — I mean, I am partly but, I’m mainly doing it for him.

If they have to drag me out of there or carry me out of there, then that’s fine because I chose to do it and I chose to spend the last six months training and preparing for this.”

Goldberg also gave his thoughts about the recent comments made by WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray in an episode of the Busted Open Radio criticizing the way his WWE return was handled in regards to him immediatly getting a title shot.

“I was 176-0. I don’t have to stand in freakin’ line… So Bully Ray can bite me. But everybody’s got an opinion, and Bully Ray has a podcast that’s about wrestling, and so you’re obviously gonna chime in and give your two cents and I love him to death and I respect his opinion. But his opinion is like an asshole and everybody’s got one. So I mean, that’s fine. Everybody, ‘Oh, Goldberg’s limping to the ring, Goldberg’s small, Goldberg’s old.’ I am freakin’ old. What do you want me to do? … Turn the clock back? But, show me another 58-year-old dude that’s willing to go out and do this? I mean, there’s a couple. But I’m gonna hopefully surpass their performance and at the end of the day, I gotta surpass my performance in the past.”

Erick Rowan Comments on Not Feeling Pressured to Carry Bray Wyatt’s Concepts & Wyatt Family Name

Card Player News held a recent interview with Erick Rowan. One of the topics discussed included Rowan’s thoughts about if he feels honored to be able to carry Bray Wyatt’s concepts and if he feels any pressure to carry on the Wyatt Family name in WWE.

“I don’t think it’s like this enormous pressure. Yes, we’re keeping the spirit alive. I’m trying to keep John’s spirit alive. These are things that are near to my heart but sometimes it gets emotional. You can’t stop it like you’re surrounded by it. That song that Windham used to come out to, the code orange song. Yeah it’s tough. Seeing the fireflies, it’s tough. But seeing all this stuff and being in there and seeing the fireflies and knowing that this is like being in places that…and you’re looking around and they’re not with you. I mean, that’s a tough pill to swallow.

But then you slowly start to open your eyes and look around and you got Nikki Cross, you got Dexter, you got Gacy, and then you got Taylor, Bo and you open your eyes and you’re like okay, this is a family too.

They’ve become a family to me, and it makes it easier, if that makes any sense. Because I know I have people there that, the people that are no longer here would, would probably smile that were all rocking together, you know? Initially for them, but hopefully to prove something to within ourselves of what that message is, and that’s these people have been thrown away in the eyes of the fans in a story sense.

But in a real life sense, these people have been and kind of forgotten about. These people have been if you really want to go deeper into it, these people have been, there’s been negativity spread about these people individually. Not necessarily now within whatever the realm of whatever’s going on with the group, but there’s been negativity spread about each one of these people, online. I don’t think a lot of these people have had clear chances to showcase what their strengths really are in the company. Any company. And I think this is the chance for them to begin to show those strengths while honoring something that’s pretty big and close to my heart.”

Savio Vega Comments On WWE’s Acquisition Of AAA

A recent episode of the Ten Count Media with Steve Falls podcast featured former WWE wrestler Savio Vega as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Vega’s thoughts about WWE’s recent acquisition deal for Lucha Libre AAA and him revealing that he is currently working as an agent for AAA.

“Well, yeah, I’m working as an agent with the company, with this project so, all this is gonna be the big move with the company and them. AAA’s gonna become full with WWE. So, let’s see what happens. We go step by step. I can’t say right now, are we gonna do this? Because I don’t know. But hope that I’m in front of the camera in any moment if it’s possible. If not, that’s okay. I’m happy with being back and working with this talent, which they’re in better shape than me right now (Vega smiled). So, happy, happy to be honest to be part of the company once again and work with this talent.

Just with WWE. I’m working for WWE, you know, on this project… I’m gonna be as a producer. Hope something happen (in-ring-wise). Anything could happen. You there, you’re still alive so you’re good for something. So, I believe if it’s there, I’m welcome. Why not?”
