Kay Lee Ray (Alba Fyre) Clarifies Her WWE Departure & Not Being Given The Chance To Really Show What She Could Have Done on WWE Main Roster

As noted before, Alba Fyre, also known as Kay Lee Ray in the indies, departed from WWE this past April as part of a larger batch of talent releases and departures. Ray revealed in an interview with the Daily Star earlier this month that she was not released from WWE and instead her contract was not renewed.

A recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast featured Ray as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Ray providing more details regarding her departure from WWE and how WWE did not want to offer her anything for new contract talks.

“I think in the last one I did, maybe the words were a little bit misconstrued. I had been thinking for a while if I wanted to re-sign or not. But as I said before, I’ve been with WWE for a long time. So I at least wanted to give them the courtesy of having that conversation. I knew my contract was up in three weeks by the time I spoke to them, maybe four weeks. It was at Mania, so I was like, ‘Look, I know we’re really, really busy right now. I’m not asking to have that conversation now, but can we have that possibly soon?’ Then unfortunately, I got the phone call the next week saying that they didn’t want to be offering me anything. On that, I was like, ‘Cool, this was the decision I was already heading towards anyway. If that’s the way we want to go, that’s fine.’ So, yeah, it wasn’t a surprise to me. Again, it’s kind of like a pattern recognition. You know, that time of year, after Mania, there’s going to be releases, there’s going to be firings. My contract was just up and it fell at that unlucky time. I don’t even want to say unlucky because, as I said, I was already thinking like I want to get back to wrestling. I want to get back to putting it all out there. So if I wasn’t going to get there, then where are we going to do it?”

Ray also gave her thoughts about her time in WWE and her regret that she was not given the chance to really show what she was capable of doing on the main roster.

“The way it went at the end obviously wasn’t great. But in the past few years, I got to have fun with my friends and I got paid well for it. So I even try to look on the bright side of that, that I can’t really be disappointed with that. I wish I was given a chance to really show what I could have done on main roster. But I was with WWE for seven years, almost eight. If I got a chance to do it again, I know there would definitely be more relationships I would make. I would maybe do things differently, but looking back now, I had fun. I think now’s the time to go kind of reinvent myself and show them what we could have done on main roster.”
