Vince McMahon Sex Trafficking Lawsuit Update – Judge Rules for Dr. Carlon Colker’s Defamation Case Against Janel Grant’s Attorney Will Continue

As noted before, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit in January of 2024 against former WWE/TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon accusing McMahon of committing sex trafficking and sexual abuse towards her during her time in the company. Grant filed a new amended lawsuit this past February detailing new evidence and claims against McMahon, WWE, and others. Grant had also a filed petition against a WWE Wellness doctor named Carlon Colker and his clinic in July of 2024 for medical records related to her lawsuit, which was court ordered to be released this past August. Colker in return had filed a defamation lawsuit this past May against Grant’s lawyer over claims off false public statements made against him and his clinic.

Post Wrestling and Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston reported that Judge Sarah F. Russell ruled this past Friday that Colker’s defamation case against Grant’s attorney Ann Callis will continue. Russell also had denied Callis’s motion to have the case dismissed at this early stage.

In the ruling, Russell reportedly was unconvinced by arguments from the Callis side claiming that Colker is a public figure. Thurston reported that the defendants’ motion to dismiss the case at this phase had largely hinged on their argument that the doctor, and his clinic by association, were public figures. Thurston reported that the burden of proof for individuals and entities that courts determine are public figures usually are higher in defamation cases while private figures usually only need to show that the defendant made a false and damaging statement. In regards to public figures, Thurston reported that “They need to show the defendant acted with ‘actual malice,’ meaning the defendant knew the statement was false or acted with reckless disregard for its truth or falsity.”

This lawsuit reportedly revolves around comments made by Callis on a press call and in a press release in October of 2024 where she claimed that Colker “violated ethical and medical standards when he injected unknown substances into Janel’s body and directed her to take unlabeled pills while dismissing her basic questions about those drugs” along with claims about Colker’s treatment of Grant. Colker had vehemently denied the allegations made against him by Callis.
