As noted before, EVIL’s, real name Takaaki Watanabe, contract with NJPW expired this past January and had departed from the company. EVIL has been expected to be joining WWE for the next destination for his wrestling career. This past Tuesday’s WWE NXT Revenge Week 2 show featured a backstage segment involving NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo that was a potential teaser for EVIL’s upcoming arrival to the NXT brand.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources EVIL recently signed an official contract with WWE.
Johson reported that those spoken to also stated that EVIL is currently not expected to be keeping his ring name and will be given a new ring name for his career in WWE.
No other details were given regarding a potential debut date for EVIL in WWE.
Prior to joining WWE, EVIL had been with NJPW since 2011 and had won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship during his time with the company.
